Trade Book Editorial Analysis

You'll receive an overall evaluation of your manuscript, specifically targeting areas that need improvement or development with regard to:

  • Characterization
  • Story Development
  • Narrative Arc
  • Plot Points, Scene Structure
  • Grammar, Punctuation, Syntax, Tone, and Pacing
  • Inconsistencies in Point of View
  • The suitability of the content for your target readers

This service costs a flat fee $600 (70,000 words maximum). A charge of $50 will be added for each additional 12,500 words. Included in this evaluation is a full read of the author’s work, a detailed editorial report (8-10 pages) to help rethink and revise the manuscript, a 30-minute phone session to discuss editor’s analysis, and email exchanges.

Many authors only require this level of service and are able to use the editorial notes as a road map to implement the necessary changes to create a manuscript that works!

The Path to Publication & Beyond

Generally speaking, there are four steps to bringing forth a book:

1. Creating the manuscript (conceiving it, writing it, editing it and polishing it);

2. Finding an agent/representative;

3. Finding a publisher and signing a contract (negotiating the advance, payment schedule, rights, etc.);

4. Marketing and advertising your book both before and after publication.

As you may have noticed, each step contains "sub-steps." Gentle Pen looks forward to helping you every step of the way! Check out our Consultation Services.
